Trick Seventeen: „We´re daft but cool!”
The pop-punk band Trick Seventeen presents their ‘Do it yourself’ project “Spot On”.
Back in 2006 drummer Jan and guitarist Thomas decided to found a pop-punk-band. No sooner said than done. When their friend and bassist Max and singer Chris joined the band they were ready to rock and Trick Seventeen was born. Although they are without a contract, the boys from Brunswick, Germany have produced an astounding repertoire of “homemade” songs over the years. They even shot their first music video. Their Album “Spot On” can be downloaded on CultureLoad.
It contains seven up-tempo songs influenced by the style of Blink 182 or Boys Like Girls. “The songs are about love, party, memories, every day problems and things that are beautiful and things that are rather ugly”, the band reports. “You can say that the album is about everything that matters for young people like us.”
Although their music will not revolutionize the pop-punk genre, their high quality work stands out against other bands. The band proved that at the “N Joy Band Battle” in 2009 where Trick Seventeen gave an electrifying and convincing performance. 150 bands were competing with each other and Trick Seventeen was one of them. “A friend insisted that we should participate in the competition”, the band said. It was a big surprise when they heard the words “And the winner is… Trick Seventeen” at the finale in Hamburg. “Our personal favorite was “Rauschenberger” and we didn’t think that we had a chance of winning”, the band stated afterwards. Luckily for Trick Seventeen the jury disagreed with their opinion. “The German expression “Trick 17” stands for an inventive and unusual way of solving a problem”, the band explains the origin of their name and the reason for their success in the competition. “We consider us to be some kind of “Trick 17”, which works every time, especially in live performances.”
As a result of their surprising victory not only did they get the chance to play in front of 25,000 listeners at the STARSHOW 2009 but they also gained a lot of respect and received positive feedback from new fans. To satisfy the needs of their new audience, “Trick Seventeen” is planning their new album. One of the new songs will be “Put Up With Everything” (see video). Besides, they are currently recording an EP with a compilation of their best songs as acoustic versions which will be released at the end of March. The band is also planning on going on tour this summer, because “there is no better feeling than playing a good concert”, the band explains. And of course, “Trick Seventeen” is also searching for a record deal because that would make the production and the distribution of their music a lot easier. Trick Seventeen has also some advice for other newcomer bands. “When you are without a label than you have two options”, the band said, “you can either produce your albums at home as we do it or you can record it for a small fee in a small studio.” Furthermore division of the work within the band and ambition is important. “Sometimes you have to kick your own ass if you want to achieve something.”
For everyone who wants to find out how Trick Seventeen’s “Do it yourself”-album “Spot On” sounds, they can download it on CultureLoad. The band suggests their song “Dreams And Reality” as a first listen for everyone who does not know the band yet. A catchy tune that will stay with you long after you have heard it and a song with definite potential to be really popular.
